OEwaves recently demonstrated a Tunable Opto-Electronic Oscillator (OEO) with phase noise performance of 20 dB better than the best synthesizer alternative. This tunable unit measured -140dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset with a tuning range across the X-band.



A tunable device such as this will simplify and enable a cleaner and more precise phase noise measurements. It will also create vast advancements in the operating range and performance of radar systems, and improvements to the quality of transmissions for next-generation wireless and datacom networks.
