OEwaves Wins Second Consecutive SPIE Prism Award for its Photonic Innovative Technology
Pasadena, California (February 12, 2013) The annual Prism Awards for Photonics Innovation announced OEwaves, Inc. (â€śOEwavesâ€ť or â€śthe Companyâ€ť), the winner for its Micro-Opto-Electronic Oscillator (Micro-OEO) in the Defense and Security category. This is the second consecutive Prism Award for the Company, unprecedented in the Awardâ€™s history. In 2012, OEwaves was awarded the Prism Award for its Ultra-Narrow Linewidth Laser Source in the Other Light Source Category.
The SPIE Prism Awards gala took place on Wednesday 6 February during SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco. Sponsored by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, and Photonics Media, the annual awards recognize photonic products that break with conventional ideas, solve problems, and improve life through the application of light-based technologies. Results were determined by a panel of expert judges.The Micro-OEO generates fixed microwave and millimeter wave reference signals with breakthrough phase noise performance in a chip-scale form factor, based on the Companyâ€™s proprietary high quality factor Whispering Gallery Mode optical micro-resonator. The Micro-OEO, an addition to OEwavesâ€™ opto-electronic oscillator product line, enables significant performance improvements in ground, space, naval, and airborne radar and signal intelligence systems under dynamic operating environments on miniature military platforms such as UAVs. â€śWhile the Prism Awards provide well-deserved recognition for these innovative companies, they also serve to underscore the powerful role of photonics R&D in effecting positive change in the world.â€ť said SPIE CEO Eugene Arthurs.
