OEwaves Named Finalist for the Prism Awards 2013

Pasadena, California (November 30, 2012) OEwaves, Inc. (“OEwaves” or “the Company”),  an innovator of microwave photonic technologies and products, is pleased to announce that its revolutionary Micro-Opto-Electronic Oscillator (Micro-OEO) has been named a finalist for the Prism Awards 2013 in the Defense and Security category.  Micro-OEO generates fixed microwave and millimeter wave reference signals with breakthrough phase noise performance in a chip-scale form factor based on the Company’s proprietary high quality factor Whispering Gallery Mode optical micro-resonator. The Micro-OEO enables significant performance improvements in airborne radar and signal intelligence systems under dynamic operating environments on miniature military platforms such as UAVs.

It has been nearly a century since conventional quartz crystal technology was invented and is now widely used as the dominant frequency source of choice for nearly all communication systems and devices.  Such a system’s performance, however, is directly limited by the quality of the frequency sources.  As military and defense systems dictate higher and higher frequencies with even greater performance and in small size, weight and power (SWAP), to counter the evermore emerging new threats, traditional technologies cannot satisfy these increasing demands.  The Micro-OEO is the first true innovation in this field since the introduction of the quartz oscillator nearly 100 years ago. It meets both the immediate military and security demands, as well as the growing system performance and SWAP requirements of defense and commercial communication applications.  Photonic processing is the future for microwave and millimeter wave communications and detection, and the Micro-OEO is the catalyst. 

OEwaves will be in attendance at the 2013 Prism Awards gala on February 6 in San Francisco. This is the third time OEwaves has been named a finalist for a Prism Award within the last four years.  The Company previously won a Prism Award in 2012 for its Ultra Narrow Linewidth Laser in Other Light Sources category.
