OEwaves to Develop Low Phase Noise Miniature Opto-Electronic Oscillator for Digital Receiver/Exciter Module
Company to prototype and demonstrate proprietary Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) micro-resonator based opto-electronic oscillator (OEO) in support of Air Force Research Laboratory's (AFRL) development of Digital Receiver/Exciter module for an antenna array.
(May 21, 2008) OEwaves, Inc. has been contracted to develop and demonstrate a miniaturized high performance OEO prototype for Air Force Research Laboratory that will generate reference signals in the Ka-band with low phase noise for a digital receiver/exciter module for an antenna array. OEwaves will design the oscillator based on patented Opto-Electronic Oscillator(OEO) and WGM micro-resonator technologies.
OEwaves' spectrally pure OEO and WGM micro-resonator technologies will address critical needs for enhancing current and future digital receiver/exciter system performances. The goal of OEwaves' development is to deliver a miniature Ka-band oscillator suitable for deployment in a variety of receiver/exciter platforms, capable of providing low phase noise outputs with wideband frequency agility in a miniature package.
"This is an important application requiring a size and performance that only the WGM-based OEO can provide at the Ka-band," said Lute Maleki, President and CEO of OEwaves, Inc. "We are extremely pleased for the opportunity to support the AFRL efforts in the development of the digital receiver/transmitter."
The demand for miniature high performance microwave oscillators with similar performance parameters extends beyond defense antenna array system requirements and includes satellite communications, microwave radios, automotive radars, and scientific instrumentation and test equipment.
